Financial support for veterans' organisations

Third sector organisations play a vital role in supporting the armed forces community in Scotland, providing support for both veterans and their families.

We help provide a number of funds to support the armed forces community across Scotland. Details of funds and their beneficiaries can be found below.

Scottish Veterans Fund

Scottish Veterans Fund

The Scottish Veterans Fund is now closed for applications. The deadline to submit an application was 19 November 2022.

The Scottish Veterans Fund was initiated between 2008 and 2009 as our main means of directly supporting the veterans sector in Scotland. It has provided over £2.8 million to nearly 220 individual projects, while allowing us to maintain a close working relationship with the veterans sector.

Armed Forces Third Sector Resilience Fund

Many charities have been facing severe financial difficulties because of the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on their ability to conduct fundraising activities. Cobseo, the Confederation of Service Charities, ran two surveys of their membership across the whole of the UK in 2021, which estimated a shortfall of £250 million in fundraising when compared to a normal year. They expect a similar financial impact on the sector in 2022.

To help address this, we created an Armed Forces Third Sector Resilience Fund to provide direct financial relief to third sector organisations that provide support to the Armed Forces community in Scotland.

Unforgotten Forces

The Unforgotten Forces Consortium is a partnership of 15 civilian and ex-service charitable organisations. Its main purpose is to deliver a wide array of services to veterans in Scotland aged 60 and over. It delivered almost 8,608 episodes of support for older veterans across Scotland during its first two years. We are currently providing £950k of funding from 2023 - 2026 to the consortium to help them deliver this much needed support.
